About Robert Goodnough
Robert Goodnough was an American abstract expressionist painter, inspired by both cubism and colour fields. His style consists of his earlier bold large geometric colours to later, colour shards over dripped paint.
Goodnough (1917–2010) belonged to the New York School's second generation. He helped document the Abstract Expressionists' famous Studio 35 sessions and wrote the landmark 1951 account of Pollock at work, all while developing his own signature: drifts of small colour shards moving across open canvas.
