About Ralph Gibson
Ralph Gibson is an American photographer who is known for his striking bold imagery with his dynamic high contrast black and white photography. Often incorporating everyday objects transforming them into evocative narratives.
Gibson (born 1939 in Los Angeles) apprenticed with Dorothea Lange and worked with Robert Frank before establishing his own uncompromising visual language: graphic fragments, deep blacks and charged juxtapositions. His self-published trilogy beginning with “The Somnambulist” (1970) became a landmark of photographic bookmaking, and his prints are held in major museum collections internationally.
