About Gene Davis
Gene Davis was an American artist known for his Colour Field paintings. He explored colours through his public installations from the street covered “Franklin’s Path” to micro-paintings no larger than an inch.
Davis (1920–1985) was a central figure of the Washington Color School, best known for his vertical stripe paintings, edge-to-edge intervals of colour he compared to musical rhythm. He worked at every scale, from “micro-paintings” to “Franklin's Footpath” (1972), the vast painted street outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
We have 1 work by Gene Davis at the gallery right now, from 1983. Mediums include mixed media, graphite and collage on paper. Ask us for prices on any of the works below.
