About Donald Baechler

Donald Baechler is an American painter and sculptor prominently featured in Neo-expressionism and Pop Art in the 1980s. His paintings are fragments layered into an “illusion of history.

Baechler (1956–2022) emerged from New York's East Village scene of the early 1980s, layering childlike motifs like flowers, globes, beach balls and ice cream cones over dense collaged grounds. He was also a committed printmaker, and his editions distil that vocabulary into bold, immediately recognizable images.
