About André Kertész

André Kertész is a Hungarian photographer known for his contribution to photographic compositions and his capture of modern life in photo essay form. With his unorthodox camera angles, his work gained recognition in the 20th century as a notable photographer for capturing the abstract and history.

Kertész (1894–1985) photographed for over seventy years across Budapest, Paris and New York, and his lyrical, precisely composed images helped invent the modern photo essay. From his Paris circle of the 1920s avant-garde to the late Polaroids made from his Washington Square window, his influence on generations of photographers is difficult to overstate.
