Artist Statement – Patrick Lightheart – Dark World
“Dark World” was born from a period of recovery after an accident that left both my legs broken and my life transformed. In returning to the tactile act of painting with acrylic and decoupage on canvas, I sought to reconnect with my body and process trauma through texture, repetition, and stillness. These works explore memory, transformation, and resilience—minimal yet emotionally charged, grounded in touch and presence. Based in Toronto, my multidisciplinary practice spans advertising, design, photography, and digital art, with exhibitions at Scope Miami @ Art Basel, Edward Day Gallery, Akasha Art Projects, Urban Source Gallery, and The White House Gallery, and features in Canadian Art Magazine, Toronto Star, and Apartment Therapy.
